Having received such a present from my friend one year, I wondered if the little, green, satin blindfold would make its way out of the package. Two years on it’s an essential part of my holiday packing.

Staying in hotels where the sun peeps through the curtains? Holidays are about having a lie in, not waking up with the birds so out comes the blindfold. Camping in the height of summer, the sun coming up and streaming through the tent, like a mega watt bulb? Blindfolds to the rescue! No longer a freebee on many airlines, but so useful when flying. Especially on those long flights when the passenger beside you keeps their TV on throughout the flight.

Not your standard gift but perhaps you too will be surprised by the amount of times you use this humble little bit of equipment. Many places sell these little gems, or they are easy to find on the Internet. Presents are all about having fun and sometimes it’s the surprising gifts that make us smile. Next time you are shopping for a gift, be a little adventurous and go for something that tiny bit more unusual.
